Having completed 5 years of musical training at Uspensky School for Gifted Children in Tashkent, Soviet Union (now Uzbekistan), he moved with his family to the United States in 1994. There, David won many prizes including a 1998 Contemporary Honors Recital Award playing Shostakovich, and a First Prize at the 2000 Chopin Piano Concerto Competition. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York on November 11, 1958 Started to play piano at age 6. At age 10 fell in love with drums. Continued to study drums and in Junior High School traveled to England with school jazz band that was sponsored by Mayor Beame administration. In high school, I did extensive training with drum and Bugle Corps and traveled and competed with other drum corp organizations throughout New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New England, and various other states. These organizations are called DCI, Drum Corp International. I also performed and played in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Radio City Music Hall, St. Peters Church with Bronx Community College Jazz Band. Continued studying at Drummers Collective in manhattan with well known percussionists and performers. While growing up in a diverse area in the Bronx, in the late 60's up until the middle 90's, I would play out in the street and at city parks and beaches with other percussionists. I would take my congas and timbales and would jam for hours on end, until law enforcement would reluctantly tell us to leave. Presently, I am fortunate to be working with Father Juan and his church band which is an inspiration to me.
